4. The Fuel System

Fuel and air is delivered to the engine through components which include:

  • the fuel tank which is used to store the gas
  • a fuel pump which pumps gas from the tank through a fuel line and fuel filter to a carburetor or fuel injection system whose purpose is to deliver the proper mix of air and gas to the cylinders in the engine
  • air is delivered by means of an intake manifold after passing through an air cleaner
